The Ravine of Dimosaris
Walking through the Ravine of Dimosaris you become acquainted with the traditional rural culture and its congruous relation to nature.
It can be divide into two parts of the upper and the lower village of
Lenosei.
The ravine in the upper part is steep and wild whereas from the village of
Lenosei to the sea, a narrow valley stands.
In the eastern side of the gorge there are scattered the small settlements of
Kallianou.
In the past times the path through the Ravine used to be one of the main ways of communication in the
south of Evia, since it connected the area of
Kavodoro with
Karystos.
Nowadays the Ravine continues to be a ltrack full of life for the cattlemen and footmen. The most exciting and less tiring path has as the starting point
Petrokanalo.
After about
10klm of descending it ends up in the beach of
Kallianou.
The path whose greatest part is under the old plane trees is accessible and marked.
The path is parallel to the river and is covered by huge trees that the sun cannot cross.
The clear water sources ,the green and blue lakes and the signing of birds create a magical natural surrounding where the visitor is constantly provided with new deeds.
Plane trees,
oaks,
hollies and wild olive trees Information on organized trips to the Ravine of Dimosaris are available in the booth of Tourism Association in the port’s center.
